About Us
We are the only brand in Turkey that produces professional bentwood chair models. We were established in 2018, and after 2 years of R&D work, our first chairs started to adorn spaces in 2020. The quality of our products allowed the name Durof to quickly become known both in Turkey and worldwide. To date, we have succeeded in exporting our Turkish-made bentwood chairs to prestigious venues in many countries, from Germany to Dubai, from Switzerland to Qatar. We have opened a brand-new window to the world for the Turkish furniture industry.
Even though we had nearly a quarter-century of furniture production experience before 2018, due to the lack of any resources, articles, or information about steam-bending wood in our country, we rediscovered the craft of steam-bending wood from scratch, just as Michael Thonet did 150 years ago. Step by step, after countless trials, we learned which wood to use, how to process it, the right pressure in the steam room, and the ideal drying time. Each evening after a day of failed attempts to bend the wood, we thought of giving up, but every morning we woke up with only one question in mind: “Where are we going wrong?” and rolled up our sleeves once more. After two long years, our first Durof-branded N14 chair, made entirely of 6 pieces and weighing only 3 kg yet extraordinarily sturdy, completed its journey on the production line. It was followed by models N18, N20, S811, K811, and our own original designs.
Today, with more than 50 bentwood chair models in a 2000-square-meter facility, we serve prestigious architectural offices, decoration firms, and collectors from both Turkey and abroad. While teaching our growing team the wood-bending secrets we have learned, we also discover new ones together. We carve our ideas for more elegant, more functional, and higher quality chairs into wood. We work so that chairs bearing the Durof signature offer unique experiences for all the senses in the spaces they grace.
Although we utilize the most advanced wood-bending and processing technologies to ensure our “bentwood” chairs are of superior quality and remain so for years, much of the work is still done by hand, just as it was 150 years ago. All Durof-branded chairs pass through the hands of craftsmen during their days-long production journey before reaching you.
